Georgia Transplant Foundation held its inaugural Celebrate Life gala, presented by Piedmont Transplant Institute, on April 23, 2018 at the Intercontinental Buckhead Atlanta hotel. Through the evening we honored leaders in Georgia’s transplant community and raised funds for the Foundation’s mission: to bridge the gap between hope and opportunity by educating and enriching the lives of those affected by organ transplantation.
Dr. John Whelchel was recognized as a pioneer for kidney transplantation in the state of Georgia, while Dr. Andy Smith was acclaimed for his tireless commitment to transplant cardiology. Both doctors are former president of GTF’s Board of Directors and continue to dedicate themselves to advancing the Foundation’s mission. Former Georgia Tech quarterback and heart transplant recipient, Stan Gann, was acknowledged for his exemplification of “Celebrating Life” each day when given a second chance.
Guests mingled, bid on live and silent auction items including a Muhammad Ali autographed robe and one-of-a-kind experiences, enjoyed a cocktail reception and dinner, followed by live musical entertainment by solo pianist and performer Mark Kovaly. Thank you to all those who sponsored, donated, attended, volunteered, or participated in any facet of the event. We look forward to seeing you in 2019!
